Hello Riverside community, and ramazān mobārak to those who observe! We’re kicking off 2025 with exciting updates. From creative collaborations to hands-on entrepreneurship training, this month has been full of progress. Here’s what we’ve been up to:
Riverside students have been hard at work finalizing their submissions for the Slingshot Challenge, a global initiative by the National Geographic Society for young people to propose innovative solutions to environmental issues (with the opportunity to receive funding to bring their ideas to life!).
In collaboration with the MS Museum of Art, videographer bech evans, and the Walter Anderson Museum of Art, students have crafted videos that reflect their passion for conservation and community. We’re incredibly proud of their dedication and creativity, and look forward to seeing their ideas inspire change.

Big things are happening inside the building! Construction is moving along, and we’ve officially set up fridges, an ice machine, and coffee equipment for the future coffeehouse. We’ve also assembled tables, chairs, and beanbags, transforming the interior into a welcoming, furnished space for community gatherings.
Students gained hands-on experience through a training session with Dane Lott, former General Manager of Coffee Prose, and learned to operate the new equipment. They also rolled up their sleeves for a deep clean, ensuring the space is fresh and ready for the next phase.

Mural Painting [Almost] Completed!
After a year of planning and collaboration, our community mural painting has nearly concluded! There are some finishing touches we’ll be back to paint this month, but if you drive past 3510 Terry Road today, you’ll now see a stunning wraparound mural that embodies the creativity, spirit, and diversity of South Jackson.
A huge THANK YOU to muralist mentor Justin Ransburg and everyone else who participated in the painting process, and especially to all the community members who showed support by passing by, honking, or cheering us on. Your encouragement means the world to us.
That’s all for now! Stay tuned for more updates, and we’ll see you soon.
