Student Entrepreneurship Meetings
|
Riverside’s after-school entrepreneurship sessions are in full swing. Vilas planned and led several sessions this month, all packed with hands-on learning and participatory engagement from students. Here are some highlights:

Collaboration & Business Fundamentals: We covered teamwork best practices and introduced core business concepts including revenue, profit, loss, and margins. Students roleplayed a scenario where they pitched products at hilariously high prices, sparking lively discussions on negotiation and value.

Community Outreach & Presentation Skills: In preparation for tomorrow’s community mural meeting, students practiced their presentation skills and learned valuable community engagement techniques. A big thank you to Elizabeth, Lori, and Madhav for their support on this!

Care for the Environment: We partnered with the Mississippi Museum of Art this week to discuss one of Riverside’s core tenants–care for the environment–with our students. Our conversation covered climate change, environmental justice, and conservation, with a special focus on Mississippi communities. Together, through video design and storytelling we explored ways to create positive change for our planet at the community level and beyond.

Trunk or Treat: In full holiday spirit, students attended a South Jackson trunk-or-treat to publicize Riverside’s mural community meeting. Details on that below!

You’re Invited! Please join us tomorrow for an inspiring collaboration. Student entrepreneurs will present a draft mural design for our building, which they’ve been working on with Muralist Mentor Justin Ransberg for the past few months to perfect. Community members and local organizations are encouraged to attend and share feedback to bring their vision to life. We can’t wait to see you there!
